Suffering
1) In what ways did the people you learned about during this unit suffer? What was their reaction to their suffering?
In this unit, I learned about Apostles. More specifically, one Apostle named Paul. Paul
went through A LOT of suffering. Throughout his lifetime, Paul went through struggles both
mentally and physically. For example, Paul was preaching Christianity in Jerusalem when
Romans took him as prisoner. Paul was under house arrest for preaching what he believed in.
Other Apostles that went through suffering include Barnabas and Peter went through suffering
of great storms and stoning. All of these men were probably very hurt, confused, and scared.
However, they believed in God, his power, and his love. They knew God was always there and that
God was always right, so they kept on doing what they believed was right in their hearts and in
their minds.
However, despite their fright,
2) Which story from the Acts of the Apostles did you find most inspiring and why?
I found the story that I researched to be the most inspiring. I think Paul was an amazing man
that went through so much trauma and suffering in his lifetime. First, he was just a regular man,
picked out while fishing one day by Jesus to become an Apostle. Paul was both a follower and
a leader, and knew exactly when the right time was to be both a follower and a leader. Preaching
and teaching the word of God was Paul's passion. He was so devoted to Christianity, that he
risked his life for it. Paul was arrested for his practice and put under house arrest, yet even then,
he still never gave up. His determination and drive for his passions is truly inspiring.
This video is a man narrating a video about suffering, and how every human is strong and can overcome anything when they have a little courage, hope, and strength.
3) How have you experienced challenges in your own life and how have you dealt with them?
I have experienced so many challenges in my life, it would be impossible to count. I have been through things such as friend changes and losses, school problems, sports, family struggles, wants and desires, sickness, sadness, anger, etc. The list goes on. I have been through some pretty tough situations, however, throughout them all, I have turned to my closest friends and my family. My family has been right by my side since the day I was born. Whenever I am struggling or having an issue, I can call my mom or dad and I know they will answer. I know they will say that everything will okay. And the most important part, I believe them. Bad things happen and it sucks, but it is how people choose to accept the problems, how they choose to learn from them, use them as strength that matters the most.
4) Who are people that you can turn to in times of need and why?
I can always turn towards my parents. I know it may sound cheesy or lame, but they are always
there for me when I need help or support the most. No matter what they are doing, where they
are, or who they are with, if I call or text saying I need help with something or am feeling down,
they respond instantly. They were and have always been support network since the day I was born.
My parents are my biggest fans. I play basketball and run track, and they change their schedules
to make sure they are front row at every game and every meet. They take pictures, and smile, and
hug me always. They make me smile when I am both happy and when I am sad. I love them
forever, and I know they will always have my back, at all times.
