Resilience

1) Could you ever see yourself sharing similar messages that your Letter Writer did? Why or why not? How would you share them?

Yes, I could see myself sharing similar messages as my letter writer to some extent. I do agree with the main message throughout all the letters; that God is amazing, loving, and guiding, and to never give up on him. However, to the extent the letter writers wrote about one thing is kind of repetitive, so, in turn, I could see myself sharing a similar message, but in different ways and possibly with different wording. Through this project, we got to create mock social media accounts. I thought this was a great way to share the message of the letter writers because people of the modern world today use social media to spread word quickly and effectively, which was a goal of this project.

2) What were some new things that you learned from the Marian apparition projects presented in class (be specific)?

From the Marian apparition projects, I was able to learn a lot; starting with only 17 approved apparitions of the Catholic Church. I researched one specific Marian apparition and learned A LOT. Our lady of Fatima appeared to three children during the time of World War I, being described as an elegant woman, glowing and dressed in white. She visited these kids on the 13th of every month, although one of the days, she said she was going to perform a miracle. Many people gathered in Fatima to view the miracle, now known as the Miracle of the Sun. The Virgin Mary had told three secrets to the children: 1) that the first world war was ending and the second was beginning, 2) that Soviet Communism would rise and fall, and 3) that a Pope dressed in white would fall under a hail of gunfire. All of these secrets proved true, helping to approve the whole apparition.

This is the Virgin Mary, a picture of Our Lady of Fatima, present in my responses.

3) How did you see resilience at work within the Marian apparition that you researched?

I saw resilience through the children. Our Lady of Fatima appeared to three kids: Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. These three children told no one of the visits from the Virgin Mary, but underwent loads of pressure to spill the secrets she gave them. The children were even arrested and held captive to try and get them to explain the secrets. But they did not tell. These children (all younger than the age of 10) showed tremendous resilience by keeping the truth safe and sacred to the ears that they were tod. Mary trusted the kids, and they knew that she respected them, so they showed her respect too. Resilience was a common shield for these children as they went through such difficult times.

4) Do you see yourself as being resilient? Why or why not?

I see myself as resilient to so things, but not too all. It is really hard to be resilient, or kind of immune to things such as peer pressure and 100% honesty. I have told white lies and given in to peer pressure rather than steering my own course and staying confident and truthful. However, I am resilient to when people try and bring me down, although, I do not do it alone. My support network of family and friends helps me to be strong when facing difficult times and choices. I try to be perfect, but when I realize that no one can ever be perfect, I realize that neither can I. I am resilient to negative things, but it doesn't mean I don't need a little help from time to time.
