What specific things did you learn from your group's parable?
I learned many things from researching parables, more specifically, the laborers in the vineyard. From studying this parable and looking at different ways that it is present in my life made it clear to me that sometimes things are just unfair. I learned not only that some people have it easier, but that hard work still shows. I also learned to always be happy for others, even when the result may not be in your favor. While working with my group, I was not only a part of a team to learn the parable, but a team to teach it. Finding many ways to make people happy can be difficult, but with hard work and teamwork, it was easier.
What specific things did you learn from the parables that were presented by the other groups?
Some things I learned from other parables would be the lesson of forgiveness. In the parable of the prodigal son, I learned to not only be grateful for the people in my life, but also for the fact that they are safe and near me. Also, I learned that responsibility can also mean missing out. However, like in the group's presentation, the irresponsible brother disobeyed the rules and was beat up, when he came home, his family hugged him and forgave him. I also learned from this presentation that you truly are treated the way you treat others. When the irresponsible boy came home and apologized, saying he had learned his lesson, his family forgave him and accepted him once again.
Which moral/lesson impacted you the most and why?
The lesson that impacted me most was probably the one that was not quite as present in my life. The lesson is to be happy for others, even when it may feel like your success was undermined. From this parable of the laborers in the vineyard, I was able to realizee that sometimes I would be in this position and feel angry at those who were better than me, especially when I would work much harder than them. I was able to understand that sometimes we need to see the bigger picture. That sometimes those people need to be told that they are great. Others need to feel like they are worthy too, and sometimes that can be hard to remember.
What do you think it would be like if Jesus were in our society today?
If Jesus were living in our current society, I think that most people would be much more aware of their actions. With all of the recent technology and social media, people get sucked into an imaginary, online world that hides themselves from the truth of reality. People do not understand sometimes that what they do now will impact their future. If Jesus was physically present in our lives as a regular face we saw, I can only hope that that changes the actions of most people. I hope that it makes them realize that sometimes being "cool" is not what matters most in the world. Maybe Jesus would be connect with these people better and help them try to understand the concern of the more mature. You never know, he could even post a tweet, make an Instagram, or text us!
(labeled for noncommercial reuse) This video talks about examples of being happy for there people, and how hard it can be. It can be very difficult to give others a smile and tell them that they are great, especially when we are feeling down on ourselves.
